Laboratory Identification of Pathogenic Fungi Simplified
نویسنده
چکیده
As stated by the authors, the objective of this monograph is to furnish "an aid to the teaching of the essentials in the identification of the pathogenic fungi to the beginner, and a bench companion for the bacteriologist engaged in mycologic diagnosis." This objective is admirably accomplished. The fungi discussed are limited to the pathogenic fungi encountered in North America, being, with few exceptions, members of the class of Fungi Imperfecti. Their means of identification consists of a description of the genus, together with descriptions of the various species. These are correlated with growth characteristics, macroscopic and microscopic, on media selected for growing identifying forms. In addition, there are black and white photographs of the colony formations and photomicrographs of culture forms. Such information is presented for each species discussed. The descriptive portion of the monograph names very briefly the type of disease caused by the species. The descriptions of the cultural and microscopic characteristics are concise and adequate. The appendix contains recipes for the various culture media. The photographs are technically good and the bibliography is extensive.

[Identification of clinically isolated fungi and their culture collection system in Japan].
Due to the serious financial condition of the health care insurance system in Japan, many clinical microbiology laboratories in hospitals have been forced to close or downsize, and therefore identification of pathogenic fungi isolated in these hospitals has become more and more difficult. This problem becomes even more serious when rare but clinically important fungi are the causative agents. F...

Background and aim: Dermatophytosis (tinea, ringworm) is the infection of skin, hair or nail that is caused by various keratinophilic fungi (dermatophytes). Dermatophytosis is a common infection throughout the world including all parts of Iran. As conventional laboratory procedures for identification of different dermatophytes are slow or lack specificity, more rapid and reliable methods are st...
متن کاملDevelopment and evaluation of nucleic acid-based techniques for an auxiliary diagnosis of invasive fungal infections in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
Notwithstanding the advantages of providing definitive diagnoses, the identification of fungi based on histopathological determination can be difficult and may lead to a pit of diagnoses. Therefore, the establishment of an auxiliary diagnostic method for use in routine pathological laboratories is desirable and should improve the above situation. Our previous studies have shown the superiority ...

متن کاملIdentification of New Fungi Isolated from Euonymus spp. in Guilan Province
Euonymus spp. (L.) are some of the most important ornamental plants. Fungal plant pathogens of ornamental plants are the most important factors causing damage. In this research two pathogenic fungal species were isolated from naturally infected Euonymus species and identified. In order to isolation of fungi from disease tissues, the obtained samples were cultured on potato dextrose agar medium....
